Originally established in 1986, Oliver is one of BC’s oldest Kyokushin schools.
Sempai Rainer Udala was the first Head instructor that came from a small group of students training out of Kelowna. Back then it was (now Shihan) Don Corrigal that was providing instruction thus paving the way for Kyokushin development in the Okanagan.
Sempai Udala passed the Oliver club to Michel Pacquette (1993-1999) which then in turn handed it to Mike Riplinger(1999-current).
Oliver Kyokushin offers separate Jr and Senior training classes held twice a week (call to receive correct training dates and times), and hosts an annual South Okanagan tournament.
The Oliver dojo is a definite asset to the small community, and is held in high regard by local residents.
Mike tries to stay involved interacting within the community and offers classes to different groups throughout the year. High school/elementary schools, church groups, special needs students, cub scouts/boy scouts have all received lessons and we are continuously asked to return on a annual basis.
Mike has trained exclusively in the Kyokushin style, and started in 1989.He has been active within various IKOKC functions, attending numerous summer/winter camps, and black belt conferences.
Mike was handed the Oliver club in 1999, receiving his 1st dan in 2000 and plans to continue his training while sharing his passion for Kyokushin Karate.
Some of Mike’s other interests include Judo, and drag racing. He stays busy with his own auto body repair shop, and can often be seen taking his 2 rottweiler’s (Linkin and Lexus) for a stroll downtown.
