Ladysmith Seminar

Five black belts met at the Frank Jameson Centre in Ladysmith Saturday AM September 27th.  Semapi Arthur had a brief discussion asking what people wanted to go over.  Happo no Kawshi and the new kumites were mentioned.  At the last minute, ido geiko combinations were added.

Sempai Arthur demonstrated a warm up he uses in a kick boxing class for the benefit of Sempai EJ who is going to teach her first class at the local gym.  Then we spent some of time reviewing and ensuring we understood the level of detail required in basic techniques including the importance and physiology of the pull back hand and proper posture.  We were introduced to the “stance nazi” and got to work hard on improving our stances.  Sempai Arthur also went over some of the etiquette such as when and how to tidy your gi and how to correctly kneel down in seiza.  Finally,  we had our brains addled by seemingly simple ido geiko combinations both straight and off line.  Having a small group of higher belts was nice because we could ask questions about teaching and more in depth questions about technique.
We had lunch at the local Sushi Wara restaurant where the local owner (a former neighbour of Sempai Brad) treated us like visiting dignitaries. He gave us a  complimentary appetiser of a special salmon dish.  It was delicious!  Then it was off to the dance studio for kumite training.
Osu, Sempai EJ
