It is this time of the year again when karatekas from a number of lower mainland Kyokushin Dojo's get together in Richmond to test their skills and spirit at the kyu test organized by Richmond Kyokushin - South Arm Dojo. Students from 7 IKOKC members dojos (Richmond, North Richmond, Newton, Langley, POCO, Kitsilano, South Delta, participated in this test held by Shihan Stuart Corrigal and Sensei Terry Price.
For a first time this year a unified format was promoted as a result of a several years effort to standardize all kyu and dan levels testing. The goal behind this effort is to create familiar testing environment for all students by eliminating "hidden" surprises and focusing on identifying strengths and weaknesses of the practitioners. If I have to summarize in few words - it was a very hard two and a half hours test and I'm proud for everybody who took part in it.
Like always Kihon and Ido Geiko , as the basic building blocks to build strong foundation , were the main focus. Sempai Arthur Leithman led kihon ,while the ido geiko portion was under the guidance of Sensei Dean Bawtinheimer and Sensei Jeremy Russell.
Everybody worked hard and with spirit. The test finished with the fighting portion of the grading. We saw intense fights between very promising fighters.
At the end I believe everybody left Richmond Dojo with a sense of accomplishment and pride....well deserved!
Osu!
