Nathan Howat
Sensei Nathan Howat began his training with the Edmonton Kyokushin Karate Club in 1985. In 1986 he competed in his first tournament, winning the 12&under Canadian championship. He received his Shodan in 1992 at the age of 19.
Since that time he has been fortunate enough to train with many of Kyokushin’s greatest instructors both in Canada and abroad. He has competed in tournaments all over North America, as well as in Europe and Asia. He is a former Canadian champion, Canadian breaking champion, and also represented Canada at the world championships in 1995 and 1999. In 2000, he opened the Edmonton Kyokushin Karate Club’s first full time dojo, a tradition that continues today. In 2003 he became one of a select few to complete a 30 man kumite.
Outside of the dojo Sensei Nathan is a teacher at a junior high school in Edmonton, and spends much of his time coaching his students and his own two children in hockey, soccer, volleyball, basketball, track & field, and of course, Kyokushin Karate.
