History of the Dojo
|
Water Valley Kyokushin Dojo first opened in September of 1999 by Sempais Pete
and Kim Fradley. In May of 2002, at the request of Sempais Pete & Kim,
Steve Gobby assumed responsibility of the operations of the dojo.

Pete Fradley - Head Instructor :
|
Pete trained from 1966 to 1970 at the Cambie St dojo in Vancouver (dojo no longer in operation).
Pete rejoined in 1985, training at Sea Island until leaving to open the South Delta dojo in 1989.
He then moved to Calgary in 1996 and assisted in the instruction at the Calgary Dojo.
Pete has since moved to Water Valley, AB where he and his wife Kim founded the Water Valley Kyokushin
Karate Dojo.
Pete was awarded the rank of Shodan in 1988, Nidan in 1997 and Certification as an IKO Tournament
Judge in 1999.

Kim Fradley :
|
Kim began training karate in 1989. In 1994 she moved to Calgary and opened the first Kyokushin dojo in
Calgary and is now operating the Water Valley dojo with Pete. She obtained her Shodan in 1997. Kim has
trained in Hawaii & Japan and at special training seminars held throughout BC & Alberta.

Steve Gobby :
|
Sempai Steve Gobby began training in Kyokushin karate 1992 in Montreal under Shihan André Gilbert.
He was awarded his Shodan in June of 1996. Sempai Steve moved to Alberta in 1997 and upon arriving
here began training with Sempais Pete and Kim at their Calgary dojo at the MacKenzie Lake Community
Centre. In 2002, Sempai Steve took over the operations of the Water Valley dojo at the request of
Sempais Pete and Kim.
In addition to the Water Valley dojo, Sempai Steve operates the Bearspaw Kyokushin Karate Club and is
also involved with the Banff dojo.
Sempai Steve enjoys a strong collaboration with his fellow dojo operators in the area, Sempais Steve
Heiter, Brad Gillespie and Jeff Hines as well as with Shihan Donald Corrigal in Cranbrook, BC.
