History of the Dojo
|
|
VWD is located at Shaughnessy Height United Church, just west of
Granville St on West 33rd Ave. The dojo was originally started by
Sempai Tats Nakamura in 1991 at Vancouver College and the responsibilty
of head instructor was given over to Sempai Katrina Mitchell in January
2002. After 12 years at Vancouver College, we moved to our current
location in September 2003. We currently provide two adult classes and
two children classes a week.

Katrina Mitchell - Head Instructor :

Started training Kyokushin Karate when she was nine years old at Sea
Island dojo, transferring to South Delta Dojo when it first opened,
to continue training with Sempai Pete Fradley. While under the
instruction of Sempai Pete Fradley, we hosted a self defense
seminar for teenage girls, in which she was the assistant instructor.
She joined Vancouver college dojo in 1997 to train under Sempai Tats
Nakamura, obtaining her black belt under his instruction in the Summer
of 2000. She has been an active participant in several tournaments and
camps in her fifteen years of training, including a recent seminar in
Hawaii under the excellent instruction of Shihan Bobby Lowe.
