2012 IKOKC Black Belt Camp - Armstrong, BC
Twenty-five hearty souls attended the IKOKC Black Belt Camp held this past weekend in Armstrong, BC.
Senior members of the Armstrong Dojo are wonderful hosts for this annual event and set the stage for a great camp atmosphere.
The first class on Friday evening welcomed everyone with a high energy fight class. There was plenty of spirit, sweat and "kiai's" to go around as the camp participants worked through the various fighting drills offered.
Saturday, saw three classes, the first being kata class at 8:30 AM.
Seienchin & Seipai Katas were preformed with the emphasis on correct movement and a deeper understanding of the basic kihon or techniques contained within each kata. The kata session finished with a fitness competition as all the students challenged each other with push-ups, squats, sit-ups and a Bo staff jump.
The second class worked on basic "KIHON", to develop a greater understanding of the relationship between all the different kihon in the Kyokushin syllabus. It then progressed onto the movements and practical use of those techniques.
Kihon (basics) is the tread that links all the different areas of Kyokushin training, so it was great to see many of the class participants enthusiastic and excited about this class.
Final class of the day, moved to Ippon Kumite and Goshin Jitsu. Students were challenged to use a variety of techniques in their application of Ippon Kumite. During the Goshin Jitsu training, there was also considerable insight provided into the "bunkai" and applications of the techniques and movements used, and how they relate to many Kyokushin katas.
After a full day of training, all camp participants were invited back to Sensei Larry Robinson and Sempai Kathy Desrochers home for a great Sayanora Party. Sensei Larry is known within IKOKC as a great host and a master of BBQ'd steaks. Saturday evening was no exception. Thank you Sensei Larry. OSU!
Final class of the camp on Sunday morning was a general class that saw everyone training hard despite the fun of the previous evening.
